I was suffering from Arthritis and was advised for the bilateral knee replacement surgery by my doctor in USA. I am medically uninsured and while searching the web for the surgeons and hospitals providing affordable surgery, I came to know about the concept of low-cost overseas medical healthcare treatment abroad with medical tourism. It was then that I came in contact with Life Smile facilitating affordable world-class medical treatments offshore in India. After the initial correspondence with Life Smile i sent to them details on my medical tests performed earlier in USA with the CD of my tests- MRI and X-rays. Life Smile sent these details for medical evaluation to USA trained orthopedic surgeon, a specialist in knee replacement having performed more than 600 joint replacement surgeries. Life Smile sent to me the medical opinion of my surgeon with the approximate cost quote of the bilateral knee replacement surgery with medical tour package. It was a pleasure and relief to know that I can have my surgery at a world-class hospital in India by a joint replacement surgeon having long work experience at top hospitals in New York and Boston, USA and at Stuttgart, Germany with excellent surgery results at just 18 % of the surgery cost in USA. The cost of my complete medical tour package including the cost of surgery procedure, travel, stay at hotel, transfers and sight seeing tour was just 30 % of the cost of the surgery procedure alone in USA.
On our arrival in India, Life Smile representative received me and my sister at the international airport on arrival. We were transferred to a comfortable hotel close to the hospital and provided with a pre-activated cell phone by Life Smile. Next day, Life Smile transferred us to the hospital located in a peaceful area facing a big clean lake, the hospital was very clean, newly built, spacious, not crowded with very well assigned out patient departments and sign boards in English, identical to any modern hospital in USA. On reporting at the special lounge for assistance to foreign patients, I was provided with a friendly and helpful escort for assistance, all through my appointments and tests scheduled that day i had warm and comfortable feeling with the English speaking, caring and patient friendly hospital staff, I felt secure due to the latest technology medical equipments being used by the hospital, with their professional approach and expertise and the overall general environment. Life Smile representative and the courteous staff of the hospital helped us all through our appointments, medical tests and other formalities.
My surgeon explained to me all the aspects of my surgery, all of my queries were addressed to my satisfaction during my consultations, I was admitted at the hospital and a day later my knee replacement surgery was successfully performed. After the surgery, my physical therapy rehab started with a very caring, understanding, kind and helpful lady physical therapist. Three days after the surgery was the first time in years that I felt very good walking on my feet without any pain, i had been on wheel chair for years and my happiness during these moments can not be describe in words. Slowly, I practiced walking in the corridors of the hospital under careful supervision, assistance and encouragements from my surgeon, physical therapist and nurses. Thank you to my surgeon for all you have done for me, you are a very warm, understanding and caring doctor, i wish all the doctors were like you, I thank all the staff of the Hospital for all and for every thing you all have done for me, i could not ask for better healthcare by sisterly nurses. The nursing care staff is the best I have ever experienced, you could not ask for better sisters, I wish I could take everyone back home to USA with me. Due to this excellent humane care and continued physical therapy i preferred to stay at hospital for a few extra days instead of the being discharged and stay at the hotel.
Life Smile representative was always with us as trustworthy and dependable friend for all the emotional support and help we required, waiting outside with my sister during my operation, visiting us daily before and after the surgery, helping us get changed our return travel to an earlier date available with the airlines, accompanying us during the shopping, a visit to KFC close to the hospital, receiving and see-off at the Airport. I thank Life Smile for all the prompt phone calls and informative Emails to me before my arrival and all the healthcare update Emails sent to my family in USA during my entire stay in India.
My private single room at the hospital in India was spacious, there was a provision for comfortable sofa-cum-bed for my sister staying with me and we enjoyed the beautiful view of the lake from the windows of our room. English News Paper and Magazines were delivered in our room and many popular International English channels were available on the television, we were also provided with a DVD player and a collection of English movies. The hospital had a modern international communications lounge with free internet surfing facility, public phones to dial international calls, convenience store for shopping essentials. The restaurant at the hospital was very clean with hygienic practices; the food was good, thank you for finding some thing for me to eat.
During departure from India, at the airport while walking towards the departure gate, i was happiest and felt blessed, I remembered I had been confined on a wheelchair for most of the past 16 years, i had arrived on a wheel chair in India at the same airport but today walking on my own feet towards a new life, a new beginning with immense confidence. If it was not for Life Smile, Dr. Gary Lawson, my surgeon with his excellent surgery team, my physical therapist and the international patient care at hospital in India, I would have been lost. I have definitely been blessed in India. I went to India to have Laparoscopic Surgery and the doctors and staff there are some of the most caring people I've ever been around. The doctors there are great, each doctor I've seen there was very supportive and kind to me. Some of the medical tests I had to have done before surgery were very scary, but focusing on all the comfort and compassion shown by the doctors the tests were a lot easier. I have a fear of hospitals but in India it doesn't seem like a hospital. They treat you like family. They are always there before you need them. Most of the people were very helpful to me before and after surgery.
Life Smile has been more than helpful to me since the first day I arrived in India. Actually, I think Life Smile went way overboard in helping me. I encountered a problem because I mistakenly brought a cashier check instead of bringing travelers checks and I became depressed because I could not use that cashier's check in India. Life Smile was so caring and concerned on this and I know they did not have to be. Life Smile stuck with me while getting my situation resolved. I was going through so much in India because I was having problems behind problems. I had, emotionally, given up on having surgery but Life Smile never gave up. Life Smile always tried to lift my spirit and keeping me from feeling discouraged. Life Smile stuck with me until everything was final.
The hotel was a generous stay, nice and quiet. They brought free breakfast every morning and have round-the-clock room service. After I had my surgery, they prepared the special medically recommended meals and as advised they brought it to my room every hour.
I would recommend India Hospitals to anyone; Not just because of how great all the doctors are, but also because all the procedures are so affordable. You will be in great hands!!!!
